Chapramari Sanctuary

Chapramari Sanctuary is close to Chalsa railway station and nearly 100 kilometers from New Jalpaiguri railway station / Bagdogra airport / Siliguri. Guest has to drive from Siliguri i.e. Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri railway station by National Highway number 31 either via Sevoke or the longer route via Jalpaiguri. Then one has to proceed from the forest office of Khunia Beat close to Chalsa. Chapramari is close to Gorumara national Park. It is situated in the foothills of lesser Himalaya. It is home to Elephant, one horned rhinoceros, hog deer, reptiles, huge wild tuskers, leopards, spotted deer, sambar, civet, wild boars, etc. One horned Rhino are breaded here. Chapramari is adjacent to the Neora Valley and is also a few of the many elephant corridors.

Chapramari has a watch Tower close to the Forest bungalow. It has a large water body with a few salt pits where the animals visit to supplement their sodium intake. Visit to this sanctuary is worth among the greenery of the nature. A few days of nature study is rejuvenating for the mind and soul. Chapramari is famous for Bison and Elephant herds. Unfortunately few of the elephants died in the railway track adjacent to it. One can visit Bindu, Samsing, Suntaley Khola, etc staying here. Visitors have to book the ticket for safari to enter into the park area and the watch tower as this are issued only to the guest daily and cannot be booked in advance. The forest is closed during monsoon from 15 June to 14 September. But the stay outside the sanctuary is worth during this period due to the greenery, less crowd and spotting animals.
