Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary

This is one of the main wildlife centers with tropical grassland. Jaldapara is known internationally for breeding of one horn Rhino. This sanctuary is situated close to the National Highway number 31 nearly 130 kilometers from Siliguri. Jaldapara wildlife Sanctuary stretches over an area of 114 square kilometers. Travelers can stay in the government resort inside the compound and have the options like Elephant ride, Safari, bird watching, etc. There is a nature interpretation center near the entrance of the park close to the resort. Wild life is diversified and consists of the herds of bison and elephant herds. Other wildlife that can be spotted is leopard, spotted deer, sambar, hog deer, reptiles, huge wild tuskers, wild boar, etc. The variety of birds that can be spotted are Paradise flycatcher, Crested Eagle, Pied hornbill, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Jungle fowl, Racket - tailed drongo, Crested Eagle, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Paradise flycatcher, Peafowl, Partridges, Jungle fowl, Peafowl, Partridges, plenty of peacocks, etc. The time to visit is October to March. Spring and autumn season makes the sanctuary visit pleasant. The forest is closed during monsoon from 15 June to 14 September. But the stay outside the sanctuary is worth during this period due to the greenery, less crowd and spotting animals.
